My Internship

I'm currently doing an internship at ATA, Australasian Training Academy, which trains people to become TESOL teachers.

In the first day of my internship, I felt really nervous. However, everyone in the office is so approachable and helpful, so that I got used to work in here.

What I've done so far as an intern is that I made some e-books, edited videos, took lessons from prospective TESOL teachers and checked e-mails.

I don't think my English has been improving dramatically  since I started this internship, however I could realize there are many things which I must learn before graduating from university.

I'm going back to Japan soon, but I will keep making efforts to grow as a human being.

Starbucks

I went to a starbucks which is in the city with friends a few weeks ago.
When people order cups of coffee at the starbucks, they are always asked their names by the staffs, because their names are written on the surface of cups.
Therefore, a female staff said to me ”Can I have your name?”, and I answered ” I'm ASUKA”. Usually, most people ask the spelling of my name when they have to write it.
However, she didn't ask the spelling!!  I was moved by her!!

This is a picture of the frappucino which I got then. She thought my name is Oscar, because my pronunciation is terrible.
I was so sad.

In addition, today I realized that Oscar is a male name....

The Water Diviner

I watched ” The Water Diviner” with my host family.

This film is about an Australian man, Joshua Connor ( Russell Crowe ), who went to Turkey after the Battle of Gallipoli to find his missing three sons.

I was really impressed by this movie, for it has gripping plots and beautiful scenes.
In addition, it made me think about ANZAC! I think I must study not only English but also Australian culture and history. So, I was glad to watch this movie!

Tongue Twisters!

A few weeks ago, I practiced a tongue twister to improve my pronunciation while walking on my way home, because I thought there was nobody around me.

I talked ” She sells seashells on the seashore” to myself many times.

However, a woman who was behind me ( I didn't realize she walked behind me) said ”No, she sells seashells on the seashore” and corrected my mistakes!!!!

I was really surprised and embarrassed.
But It was a very funny experience!

I was really happy to meet her :)

Session Break 2

From April 27th to 29th, I went to Great Barrier Reef with friends!

On the fist day of trip, we dropped in to see animals. There are koalas, kangaroos and emus!  I took selfies with them! They are really lovely!

We arrived at Great Barrier Reef and saw a beautiful sunset! It is the most gorgeous sunset I have ever seen!

On the second day of this trip, we went to Lady Musgrave Island by ship. It took 90 minutes!
I enjoyed this voyage but friends got motion sickness. They thrown up twice and looked really tired.

We did snorkling around the island. There are lots of colorful fish and beautiful corals under the sea.

Session Break 1

On the fist day of this session break,  I went to cinema to watch this movie with my host parents and Yeseul, who is a student of ICTE and my home mate. I could understand the outline of the story. But my listening skill was too poor to grasp all lines of this film. I think I have to practice listening English more and more!!
But this movie is really good! The voices of boys  are awesome!

On the second day, I enjoyed eating lunch with my lovely classmates. It was funny to talk with them, eating a delicious meal. Their backgrounds are different from mine. But they are good friends for me! I am always inspired by them.Unfortunately, some of them are going back to their countries.
However, I believe that we will be good friends forever!

I also went to a casino! It was the first time for me to go there. But I didn't gamble because I didn't know any rules of the games. And I don't like gambling in the first place. I was suprised when I saw many elderly women in the casino because I thought gambing is an entertainment for men! The atmosphere of casino is very gorgeous and luxury. Therefore, I think people who like gambling can escape from reality while they are in the casino.

The First Session

weeks have passed since I came to Australia. One session seemed long but it  ended before I even knew it!

During the first and second weeks of this session, It was difficult for me to even get on buses. But, I am used to living here now :)

In Brisbane, there are people from many different countries. So, I could enjoy meeting people of many nationalities and eating the cuisines of various countries.

Getting on scary rides is not my cup of tea! But I went to the Dreamworld and tried to get on some scary rides with my classmates of ICTE!  I'm glad that I went there because I made a really good memory with them :)
